RIP Summer Driving Playlist 09 - 10
It’s mid-May and there are occasional days with sunny bits in between the endless rain that is a Pittsburgh Spring (also fall and the warmer parts of winter and fuck, most of summer too, but still…SUMMER!), and that means it’s finally time for me to come up with a new Summer Driving Playlist.
This means, of course, that I need to lay SUMMER PLAYLIST ‘09 - ‘10 to rest, and posting it to Tumblr seems as good a way as any.
As can be seen, my summer jams (especially for driving) are usually less of the lazy/hazy/shimmery type and more “songs that someone driving next to you might look at you funny for loudly belting through an opened window”.
- Punk Rock Girl - Dead Milkmen
- I’m a Pretender - The Exploding Hearts
- Town Called Malice - The Jam
- In The Street - Big Star
- Constructive Summer - The Hold Steady
- Interplanet Janet - Man or Astroman?
- Don’t Stop Believin’ - Marnie Stern
- Girlfriend - Matthew Sweet
- Roadrunner - The Modern Lovers
- Miss Teen Wordpower - The New Pornographers
- Chrissie Kiss The Corpse - Of Montreal
- More Bad Times - Presidents of the United States of America
- My Boyfriend’s Back - The Raveonettes
- The Underdog - Spoon
- Me and Mia - Ted Leo & The Pharmacists
- Heavy Metal Drummer - Wilco
- The Punks are Writing Love Songs - Tullycraft
It’s definitely of a few years ago (and even was when I made it really), but I think it can still serve well. I need to move on just because I’ve listened eleventy billion times, but I’ve thrown it together in a zip file in case anyone else can make use of it as the weather gets better.

I am of the firm belief that Constructive Summer belongs on EVERY summer’s playlist.
