Important Steely Dan Questions

Okay, people, I need to ask you an IMPORTANT STEELY DAN QUESTION

(well no, I need to finish up some work, I am asking you an important Steely Dan question).

I have, through random accretion over the years, precisely five Steely Dan songs on my hard drive

(I know, Aja, Countdown to Ecstacy, etc. I should have more songs, but I have five, that is just how it is right now)

The reason I haven’t gotten around to updating my library with full albums is that I really really like the flow of the 29 minutes of Steely Dan that I have, and I listen to it on a weirdly consistent basis. It goes like this:

  1. Do It Again
  2. Deacon Blues1
  3. My Old School
  4. Reelin’ In The Years 2
  5. Ricky Don’t Lose That Number

The problem I for some reason didn’t notice until recently is that #5 is, while by no means a bad song, not nearly as good as the first four. It clearly needs to go.

What takes its place?

1My favorite Steely Dan song since high school. Yes, I was the kind of sixteen year old with not only a favorite Steely Dan song, but one over seven minutes. I was touching exactly as many breasts at that point in my life as you would  guess based soley on that fact

2the solo @3:38 in is specifically where I gave up on the notion that I would ever be good at playing the guitar
